O Controller Inputs

Computox Relay Map

Bit of a busy weekend, but I have started to buzz out the O controller inputs.  Superficially these are similar to those of the X controller, connecting to the break switches in position 4 of the top bank of *XA relay:

  • Button A -> Relay AXA top bank switch 4, pin 2
  • Button B -> Relay BXA top bank switch 4, pin 2
  • Button C -> Relay CXA top bank switch 4, pin 2
  • etc

With the exception of the E and F inputs pin 1 of switch 4 then goes to the make switch 2 on *OA, again similar to the X controller:

  • Relay AXA top bank, switch 4, pin 1 -> Relay AOA top bank switch 2, pin 1
  • Relay BXA top bank, switch 4, pin 1 -> Relay BOA top bank switch 2, pin 1
  • Relay CXA top bank, switch 4, pin 1 -> Relay COA top bank switch 2, pin 1

Inputs E and F do not seem to appear on EOA or FOA respectively.  The reason for this is not known.  Performing a comprehensive search for where input E is found gives the following rather alarming list:

  • Button E -> Relay HOA bottom bank switch 3, pin 2
  • Button E -> Relay JOA bottom bank switch 3, pin 1
  • Button E -> Relay GOB top bank switch 1, pin 1
  • Button E -> Relay OS top bank switch 3, pin 1
  • Button E -> Relay HXA bottom bank switch 3, pin 2
  • Button E -> Relay FXB bottom bank switch 2, pin 2

With the exception of OS switch 3, all these switches are the Make type.  They also all remain connected even if EXA switch 4 or OS switch 3 are broken, indicating that these pins are not in series with either of these switches.

It was hoped that tracking down the relay(s) that are activated by the O controller shorted connection on pins 5 and 6 might simplify the situation, by removing any potential influence of the computer opponent.  Pin 5 of the O controller appears to go to one side of the power supply.  The other is connected to one pin of the relay Y coil.  Despite holding this relay in its actuated state with some tape, the E input seems to remain unchanged.

This suggests that a much more comprehensive search for connections from the O controller inputs is called for.  Something that is partially confirmed when looking for additional connections to the A input:

  • Button A -> Relay JOA top bank switch 3, pin 2

 I guess this is where the going gets tough.
